and Scholars Association at Illinois Institute of
Technology, hereby abbreviated as CSSA-IIT, is a
non-profit, non-political and non-religious organization
of Chinese students and scholars registered at Illinois
Institute of Technology. |
| CSSA-IIT is open to all
students and scholars of Illinois Institute of Technology
and the general public without regard to race, religion,
color, sex, national origin, disability, age, veteran
status, creed, marital status, public assistance
status, or sexual orientation. |
| ?The general purposes of
CSSA are promote the friendship among its members;
increase the culture diversity of Illinois Institute
of Technology; help its members with their living
and study. |

CONSTITUTION
OF CHINESE STUDENTS AND SCHOLARS ASSOCIATION AT
ILLINOIS INSITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY
|
ARTICLE
I GENERAL
Section 1: The official name of this organization
shall be Chinese Students and Scholars Association
(CSSA).
Section 2: CSSA shall be a student organization
that provides the opportunities for the students
of Illinois Institute of Technology and the general
public to explore the Chinese cultures through building
friendships with the students and scholars from
China.
Section 3: The Association shall abide by the applicable
rules and policies of Illinois Institute of Technology
(IIT) pertaining to student organizations.
Section 4: This association shall exist for the
following purposes:
?To strengthen contact and to promote friendship
among its members;
? To help the Chinese students and scholars with
their living and academic activities;
? To arrange events that improves cultural diversity
in the university community through promoting the
Chinese culture.
ARTICLE II MEMBERSHIP
Section 1: Membership is open to all students and
scholars of Illinois Institute of Technology and
the general public without regard to race, religion,
color, sex, national origin, disability, age, veteran
status, creed, marital status, public assistance
status, or sexual orientation.
Section 2: Two-thirds of the voting membership shall
consist of the registered students of the Illinois
Institute of Technology.
Section 3: One will become a CSSA member after registration
with the Association.
ARTICLE III OFFICIERS
Section 1: The Officers of this Association, which
shall be the students of the university, shall consist
of President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer
and other officers as needed.
Section 2: Officers shall be elected during the
annual membership meeting and shall serve for a
period of one year. The President may, upon approval
by the Executive Committee, appoint deputy officers
to fill in vacant positions.
Section 3: The duties of the Officers are as follows:
a. President ?Preside over all meetings of the Association
and serve as the Chairperson of the Executive Committee.
Act as the official representative of the Association
at other meetings and events.
b. Vice President ?Preside at the meetings of the
Association and the Executive Committee in the absence
of the President. Succeed the President if the President
were unable to complete his/her term of office.
Coordinate all committees.
c. Secretary ?Record and produce minutes of all
meetings. Handle the AssociationĂs correspondence.
d. Treasurer ?Handle all financial transactions
of the Association. Maintain thorough and accurate
records of all transactions. Produce financial reports
as required by the Association.
e. Other officers ?Duties of other officers are
decided by the Executive Committee.
Article IV Executive
Committee
Section 1: The Executive Committee consists of all
elected officers of this Association. Presidential
appointees, although may attend the Executive Committee
meetings, are not members of the Executive Committee
and do not have the voting rights in the Executive
Committee meetings.
Section 2: The Executive Committee may appoint Advisors
of this Association.
ARTICLE V MEETINGS
Section 1: An annual membership meeting shall be
held in September or October of each year. A special
membership meeting may be called by the Executive
Committee to serve any special purpose.
Section 2: A regular Executive Committee meeting
shall be held once each month during the academic
year.
Section 3: A quorum shall be present in an Executive
Committee Meeting in order to conduct official business
of the Association. A quorum shall consist of fifty
percent of the Executive Committee members plus
one.
Section 4: Decisions of the Association shall be
enacted by a majority vote of the Executive Committee
members present.
ARTICLE VI FINANCIAL
MATTERS
Section 1: The Association shall not provide monetary
gain, incidentally or otherwise to its directors,
Advisors or membership. This does not restrict the
payments of wages, salaries or incentives by the
Association for services rendered.
Section 2: Unless otherwise specified by the membership,
at the time of dissolution of the organization the
residual assets shall be distributed to student
activity office of Illinois Institute of Technology.
ARTICLE VII ?BY-LAWS
Section 1: By-laws may be proposed by the membership
and may be adopted by a majority vote of those present
at a membership meeting.
ARTICLE VIII
AMENDMENTS
Section 1: Amendments to the Constitution may be
proposed by any member of the Association. Such
proposals shall be submitted in writing to the Executive
Committee at least two months prior to the membership
meeting at which the proposed amendment is to be
voted. The Executive Committee shall announce the
amendment proposal to all membership at least one
month prior to the membership meeting. Amendments
shall be approved by a two-thirds majority vote
of the membership present. |
